The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is currently facing a $20 million shortfall that has halted construction on Canada's largest Dog Guide training school in Oakville, Ontario. This shortfall is due to rising costs and the expansion of the project’s scope. The organization is seeking to raise the funds needed to complete the project by the end of October, with $5 million coming from public donations. The foundation is also trying to bridge the remaining gap through a plea to government, major donors, Lions Clubs, and corporate partners. The demand for Dog Guides is growing, with one in four Canadians living with a disability today, which has increased since 2017. The new National Training School aims to increase the number of Dog Guides trained and matched by more than 65% each year, reducing wait times for Canadians with various disabilities.
